COPYRIGHT NOTICE
The majority of the materials held in Special Collections and University Archives are protected by copyright. The copyright holder has the exclusive right to authorize the reproduction, distribution, performance, or broadcast of his or her work. (Title 17, United States Code). Researchers are responsible for clearing copyright for all reproductions and uses (in excess of fair use) of materials that are not in the public domain. J. Murrey Atkins Library Special Collections and University Archives may only grant permission to broadcast or publish items when UNC Charlotte holds the copyright to that item. UNC Charlotte does not hold copyright to all images or materials in our collections.

READING ROOM POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

• Registration is required once a year.
• Researchers must present photographic identification.
• The Reading Room is a designated quiet study area.
• Keep backpacks, bags, and coats at the front of the Reading Room
• Materials must be used in the Reading Room. If you cannot access the Reading Room and require accommodations, please contact us at 704-687-1674 or spec-coll@uncc.edu.
• No food and drink allowed.
• No pens allowed - take notes using only pencil and paper or computer.
• Handle items with care. Do not trace, write on, or fold materials. Do not write on paper that is placed on top of materials. Use all materials flat on the table.
• Use only one box and one folder at a time.
• Do not change the order of folders in boxes or the order of documents in folders.
• Do not touch photographs with bare hands. Gloves will be provided for handling photographs if they are not sleeved.
• Do not open books and lay them face down and do not use objects such as pencils as bookmarks.
• Ask staff before using the scanner. Reproduction via self- scanning or taking images by tablet and phone cameras is allowed, but we reserve the right to prevent duplication of materials if it will damage materials or if we understand there is intent to violate copyright.
• In resulting publications, please include proper acknowledgement that materials are held by J. Murrey Atkins Library, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
